Memorial Day Being Observed Here

Hi there.

My husband is retired from the Air Force so we remember all the patriotic holidays. Memorial Day is to remember all those who have died while serving in the military. It was originally known as Decoration Day and was to remember the fallen Union soldiers in the Civil War. It was expanded after WW I to include all.
According to a Yale University professor, David Bright, the first memorial day was observed by formerly enslaved African Americans. Take a few minutes and read all about this at Wikipedia. It is so interesting!
The meaning of so many of our holidays gets blurred over time. Retailers use them to promote sales. There are picnics and gatherings to have fun, eat and dance. Let's talk a few minutes this weekend and remember what Monday is all about.
Hoping all are well and that you remember those men and women at some point this holiday weekend.
